Argumentation-Persuasion: Racism

This was written for an assignment that simply asked us to write an essay/paper in the "Argumentation-Persuasion" style. I guess I was on a soapbox.

Underneath the wispy mists and placid clouds of the
magnificent planet Earth, there lie many treasures and wonders.
Inside the protective globe, people flourish and advance.
Marvelous cities and nations dot the warm surface of the planet.
Daily innovations are put forth to further progress the native
civilizations. At first glance, one can see splendor and
intelligence. One can determine the sophistication and integrity
of an entire race, building a better world each and every day.
Deeper down, there are digital networks and high-power silicon
brains powering decisions and world trade. Networks of optical
celerity pulse continuously around the world, stopping at stations
in different lands for different people. Dozens of high-tech
survival systems grow food and harvest livestock. Delivery systems
move products and materials from one place to another with
amazingly astute precision. Indeed, this global community grows
closer each day. In such a world, perfection is key. There can be
nothing to stand in the way. The people of the world must work in
perfect harmony to build a better tomorrow today, advancing beyond
advancement the hour before last. But, upon second glance,
previous unseen weaknesses marr the near-perfect image. While
many people and sections of the globe suffer due to the failure of
the systems so highly praised, there is an even more obvious
barrier to the unlimited success of the human race. From
government to big business to small-time adversions, there exists
a flaw inherent to the glorified natives of the globe. The problem
becomes evident in those brilliant survival systems. It also
becomes clear in those awesome technical networks. It even becomes
obvious in governments and large corporations. This problem is
racism, a scourge that eats away the successes of the world from
the inside out. For each pair of men who turn their backs on each
other during a breakthrough project that fails due to lack of
communication, there is erosion of the human dream. For each pair
of women who refuse to work together in building a better
government or federal system, beacuse they are blinded by what they
see, a small part of the human goal fades. For each child
corrupted by a stereotype or ignorance, the hopes of the human race
weaken. Racism is a syndrom ebased on ancient fears and lack of
intelligence that has no place in the world today.

The world is, indeed, a beautiful place. In each corner of
each nation, there is an amazing sight or breathtaking wonder to
take in and behild. Everywhere, there is an opportunity to learn
and be taught by the common knowledge of another land. There are
also simple places to relax and enjoy life. in each section of the
globe, there are human pieces to the puzzle of a goal and humanity
strives for: the intellectual and technological advancement of the
race. One should take what has already been accomplished into
account: the world is linked by massive lines of trade, people
from many lands converge together to exchange their goods and services
to others, int imes of emergency and disaster, nations are there to
support the stricken with food, medical assistance, and protection
from the elements. The planet now is linked by a digital
superhighway, computers and networks around the world talking to
each other, twenty-four hours a day, seven-days a week. Religious
orders standing together to fight deadly disase and proclaim
higher moral standards for the masses. In fact, the world even
shares resources for entertainment and leisure. Without any
restrictions or barriers, the entire planet would be moving towards
a utopian society. If all hurdles were cleared, the geosphere
would have many achievements. There would never be a hungry man or
woman on the planet, because the digital monitoring networks would
detect drought or famine conditions and automatically allocate
shipments of supplies to the stricken area. Disease and sickness
would be reduced, due to advanced education and medical resource
sharing. Education and literacy would be at a maximum, wiht people
striving to use the portions of the brain that are not used, rather
than struggle to use what is currently useable. There would be
little bickering, little ignorance, and much less work towards
personal gain. There would be little fighting for the higher life
if each person had a piece of it due to global advancement. In
such a place, there would never be any fighting, or any wars.

Why, then, is such a world not in the immediate future?
There are no such systems, education, and humanitarian aid groups
present for anumber of reasons. But, all reasons boil down to a
main factor: the hesitation to promote a people who are slightly
different. This bigotry, the lack of compassion for others, is
called racism.

Many people, if not most, are racist. There are those who
will attribute it completely to inherent, innate tendencies.
However, this is not necessarily true. While there may be some
innate urges to flock with the flock, so to speak, an intelligent
mind can definately override them. Therefore, why are people
racist? There are three main causes. First off, much of the basis
for modern racism lie in old, ancient fears, ignorance, and
opportunities which are obsolete and unnecessary. In older times,
the planet was less developed, and knowledge was much lower.
Unknowns were generally feared and usually explained by some
previously-unheard-from god or goddess. However, when different
people were encountered, they were viewed as a threat. Regardless
of the real threat, they were persecuted and attacked. False tales
were spun to solidify the claims of the majority against the
different people, who were generally a minority. These
sectionalist ignorant ideas were passed on from generation to
generation. Eventually, the planet became littered with small
nationalist countires, all of whom hated the other. Also, it was
at times opportunist to be racist and supremist in a more barbaric
world. For example, the post-renaissance slave trade exploited the
African and Asian people who were powerless to respond to a
multitude of bigoted Europeans. The Europeans benefitted from the
bondage of the unfortunate people, and therefore set out to make
them appear inhuman. They, too, miseducated their masses to hate
the minority. While these reasons are unnecessary and obsolete
now, they continue to be adhered to.

Secondly, the general lack of intelligence and education
forms racism. Listening to half-baked idealisms of the
underdeveloped mind, masses of people can become ignorant and
racist. For example, Adolf Hitler, the German Socialist leader
during hte second World War, was a prime example of racism. While
not overly unintelligent, Hitler formed his racist opinions in a
very uneducated way. hitler, as a child, was an aspiring artist.
When in a visit to an art gallery in a big city where he hoped to
make his big break, he noticed the successes of Jewish people
there. When his work flopped, he blamed it all on the influences
of the Jew in the world, and secretly vowed revenge. The simple
fact was that his work was simply not good enough at that time for
recognition. However, using stone-age logic and lack of reasoning,
Hitler formed a heinous opinion that he eventually brainwashed his
fellow people into believing when he took power. In urban ghettos
of America, children learn to become racist. These children, of
all races, creeds, and colors, are generaly less educated than
the middle to upper class children. These children, therefore,
do not get the necessary understanding of the facts of humanity,
and violently exterminate different people, and eventually each
other, in vicious gang wars.

The third reason for racism is the simple effects of
diseased minds. Many people are born with mental deficiencies
that, when coupled with the ignorance of people around htem, grows
into a psychotic rage. For these reasons, the inhabitants of the
globe have oft become racist.

Fortunately, there is hope for the world. There is no
reason for racism, and everyone shoul dstrive to overcome it.
There are so many examples proving the beliefs of the racist wrong.
In many glistening examples of that utopian spirit, people have
stepped up as people for people, regardless of their labels. One
main example is, during the racist mayhem of the Rodney King
situation, the efforts of one man to right a wrong. A white
European-descended American male truck driver was beaten nearly to
death by a group of young, black, African-descended American males.
Obviously, the driver had done no wrong. But, the youths
continually assualted the man. One man stood on the sidelines,
unable to help. But, he did have the presence of mind to film the
terrible attack, and alert the authorities. This man was a black
African-descended male. A striking irony to the racist's belief.
Yet another boon to humanity, a European woman gave her whole
life to assisting and providing for hundreds of the world's sick
and poor. Hundreds of needy people were helped by her loving hand.
These people were from all six inhabited continents, of all
religions. Her name is Mother Theresa, and is perhaps one of the
most prolific examples of the person of the human dream. There
have even been many leaders in the world who have stepped up to
fight ignorance and injustice peacefully and itelligently. One
such leader is Mahatma Gandhi of India. He led his people against
the terrible British tyranny. The Indian people were constantly
persecuted while under British rule. Yet another pair of leaders
were Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm Little, also known as
Malcolm X. These two American black leaders called for peace and
harmony. They did not ask their listeners to accept white
leadership, or to become assimilated into the white race. They
asked for both races, and all races, to accept each other and look
beyond the evolution-caused aesthetic differences in people and
work together for a better life. Unfortunately, all three of these
wise leaders were shot dead, silenced by the bullets of racist
people. Another point to consider is that in the world, there is
never any advancement from the repression of a people. in the
human dream, progression must come from all angles, and all places.
Many people are to come togehter and work towards the existence of
one race, one land. By suppressing certain people, this goal is
impossible. Racism, then, is never justified, and always ignorant.

It is the duty of all people to rise up and fight racism.
Everyone must rise to the task and educate themselves and everyone
around them that humanity is made up of solely the human race.
With knowledge comes understanding, and a less violent outlook.
With compassion and unity, the difficult problems of the planet now
will become trivial and non-existent. Racism is simply an excuse,
a hodge-podge answer to an ancient fear or a foolish belief.
Everyone has the ability to work with everyone else, and work
towards the human dream of progression and advancement. People
wish to move beyond our own planet and learn new, exciting pieces
of information. But, if people can not overcome their own
ignorance, they will not be able to achieve even the smallest goal.
Racism has no place in the modern world, and therefore should be
removed from the minds of all people who truly want to move
forward. Then, there will indeed be a dazzling tomorrow and a new
frontier: togetherness.
